The Cotton Chick began in rural Victoria, founded by Anne Smyth.

After discovering finger knitting, Anne was instantly hooked — drawn to the ability to create a beautiful, finished blanket in just a few hours. It was a hobby that didn’t end up forgotten in the back of a cupboard, unfinished.

However, she quickly realised that chunky chenille yarn was extremely hard to source within Australia.

Determined to change that, Anne set out to become a supplier herself. After months of sampling yarns from around the world, she found the perfect fit — soft, thick, and beautifully fluffy — and The Cotton Chick was born.

Today, The Cotton Chick supplies over 70 colours of chunky chenille yarn to customers all across Australia, along with a growing range of handcrafted lap and throw blankets.

In November 2025, the business was passed on to Terrie Thompson and relocated to its new home in Western Australia.

Terrie continues the vision, dedicated to providing finger knitters across Australia with a wide range of beautiful, high-quality chunky yarn, as well as ready-made blankets for comfort and gifting.
